“Exposing people to their shine is a little like presenting them with a gift bearing a big red bow. And who wouldn’t want to play Santa Claus, delivering gifts to people all around the world?”

Founder and Executive Director

Claudia K. Beeny is Founder and Executive Director of House of Shine — but she often feels that she didn’t choose House of Shine; it chose her. Claudia believes that each of us is wired with a unique combination of talents and gifts, and to live a truly fulfilling life, we must discover what they are and how they can best be deployed to make the world a better place. Her purpose? Helping others do just that.

Claudia enjoys helping people find the disconnect in their lives — the space between where they are and where they want to be — and then setting them in motion toward a life that is more rewarding. Her first experience leading others to discover their shine was when she served as a camp counselor in her youth. She went on to become a Resident Assistant (RA) while she was in college, and then spent the next 23 years working in higher education. In each of these roles, she focused on helping others find out what they wanted to do in life, while having the maximum amount of fun and making the greatest number of memories possible.

An experienced educator, Claudia holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration, and a Master of Education in College Student Counseling and Personnel Services, from The University of Georgia. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Arizona State University.

The seed for House of Shine was planted in 2007, when Claudia started a blog called Highlowaha, in which she shared one creative idea a day, never repeating the same idea twice. The blog’s readership grew, and she eventually launched a website, hired staff, and began creating curriculum and hosting workshops on a regular basis. Today, House of Shine has become an ambitious non-profit organization that strives to help women and children discover their innate talents and gifts, and use them to shine.

Claudia’s top five strengths are Strategic, Focus, Achiever, Input, and Ideation. By pairing her experience in education with her natural strengths for hatching new ideas, creating plans, and executing them, she is able to wake up every day committed to doing what she enjoys most and feels most passionate about. She finds it extremely gratifying to walk alongside others on their journey, and genuinely understand the highs and lows of their experiences.

Claudia lives in Westlake, Texas with her husband Richard and two boys, Matthew and Jack. Her oldest son lives in Louisville, Kentucky. When she’s not brainstorming ideas and programs for House of Shine, she enjoys good music and inspiring movies. Her idea of a “dream afternoon” would be to hunker down in a cozy coffee shop with a great book, her journal, and some cards she could write to dear friends from around the country.

When Claudia thinks about the future of House of Shine, she is most inspired by imagining the number of people (young and old) who will become more self-aware, and live happier, more fulfilling and purposeful lives as a result of the organization’s work.
