“I met House of Shine during my sophomore year of high school. Although I was shy and quiet, my journal spoke for me. When I first met the leaders of the organization, this extension of my personality expressed the bolder side of myself. They immediately invited me to speak with them at a workshop for at-risk teen girls, which led to co-facilitating journaling workshops about the power of self-reflection, and speaking in front of 2,400 high schoolers about how journaling unearths my SHINE. I have since taught dozens of workshops independently, and have become a much more confident speaker and person.”
