Points of Intersection

Over the last four weeks, the House of Shine has facilitated a four week series for ninth graders at Westlake Academy.  In these four weeks, we have explored the students’ SHINE (Strengths, Hobbies, Interests/Irritants, Needs, and Experiences), the way they can use emotions as data points about who they are, and the importance of knowing their purpose or calling in life versus what they want to accomplish through the lens of Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle concept. In the final week, we explored the ideas that live in the students’ heads. These ideas are evidence of their talents and interests combined with needs they’re drawn to in the world.

At the House of Shine, we call this the Point of Intersection. It is the place we are best suited to make our unique contribution to the world. For these Westlake students, it is the place they are best suited to create a Personal Project, next year in the 10th grade, that is a reflection of their SHINE and allows them to make a unique, meaningful contribution. For students of all ages, it is the place we can find our best ideas and most meaningful contributions.
