After years of raising her two daughters full time, Colleen Monroe was itching to return to work outside the home again. In 2018, she gratefully and energetically joined the House of Shine team as Chief Strategy Officer.
With more than a decade of experience volunteering for intermediate, middle and high school parent teacher organizations at the executive board level, Colleen shares her strengths of Communication, Responsibility, and Achiever with a strong sense of belief in House of Shine. Her 11 years in the National Charity League, Southlake Chapter, serving as President, Vice President of Ticktockers, and Provisional Patroness, coupled with her most recent stint as Expansion Chapter Advisor to a newly formed chapter in North Texas, have prepared Colleen for a life of Shine. She strongly believes that a person’s shine can be found at the intersection of their talents and gifts, and a need in the community (no matter how large or small). In this new phase of life, Colleen is experiencing Shine 2.0, and serves as an example that people never stop growing, learning and contributing.
Before Colleen left the workforce to become a stay-at-home mom, she worked for 13 years at The Container Store, in a variety of positions, including store manager, human resources manager, marketing and advertising director and ultimately website, media and database director. She holds a Master of Arts in Advertising degree from the University of Texas at Austin, which prepared her well for the challenges of helping grow and define a retail company.
Colleen lives in Southlake, Texas with her college sweetheart, Chris. Their eldest daughter works in Houston and their youngest daughter is enrolled in college. Colleen loves her alma mater, the Baylor Bears, and is a rabid college football fan. She’s also a marathoner, with a triathlon or two thrown in for fun. Her new love for boxing rounds out her quirkiness. Lennie, her English Mastiff, keeps her laughing and cleaning the ceilings (if you’ve ever seen a Mastiff, you know they drool). Her two favorite quotes for her girls: “Food is fuel” and “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.”
She’s incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be a part of House of Shine. Colleen hopes to create partnerships and opportunities to spread the Shine message, which she believes resonates with people of all ages. Because knowing who you are – who you were designed to be – and your purpose in this world is important work.
