A little over a week ago at this time I was sitting on the deck of a house in Key Largo, overlooking the bay and partaking in one of my favorite annual traditions. It's the... Read More »
Operation Burning Bush
I hope you will stay tuned as Heather, Cheryl, and I embark on a new adventure. I jokingly began referring to this project, in our planning meetings, as Operation Burning Bush and the working title seems to have stuck.
And actually, I'm ok with it because in an interesting kind of way the symbolism seems to work.
The Burning Bush is described as representing many things to people of varying faiths; things such as God's miraculous energy, sacred light, illumination, and the burning heart of purity, love and clarity.
Without being dramatic, some of that is exactly how I feel about DO52. We are in the third year of this program and the longer I participate, the more convinced I become that there is something divine and miraculous about the way the very verb you need guiding you shows up at precisely the time you need it most.
Weekly, participants select a DO52 stick from our collection. The idea is to invite that week's verb into your life and then watch all the ways it illuminates and brings clarity to the actions you most need to take in order to let your light shine.
The verbs are selected randomly, using www.wordgenerator.net.
But it occurred to Heather, Cheryl, and me that as good as we have been about not getting in the way of fate by “engineering” the perfect verbs, we have not been very transparent about our process.
This year we are changing that. We're taking our verb selection on the road, so that you can not only see the process, but you can actually participate in it too. The power of the this project comes from fate assigning you one verb and me another and then you having one experience with a verb and me interpreting it in a completely different way.
Take my verb for this week as an example. SHARE. Your inside voice might tell you it's time to muster up the courage to finally share the bad news you've been replaying in your head. My inside voice, on the other hand, might be telling me it's time to be generous with something I've been hesitant to share.
Countless people drawing from an annually sanctioned set of sticks, but experiencing the verbs in very different ways. Together, but a apart. I love it.
Believe it or not, in order to have DO52: 2015 Edition sticks on shelves and ready to go by late next fall, we must begin the process now.
Our calendars are marked for a big event on Saturday, April 25 (stay tuned), but we will need your help in getting ready.
The first thing you can do is this:
Look around the room and set your eyes on the first book that catches your attention.
Open it to one of the following pages: 2, 18, or 218
Close your eyes and, using your pointer finger, circle the page three times.
Drop you finger on a word.
Open your eyes
Find the verb closest to your finger.
Now visit us in the Comment Section and share it. We need 218 verbs by April 1.
On your mark,
