What shines is not that Leesa, Kyleigh, and I baked 84 porcupine sugar cookies.
Or that we packaged them in cellophane bags with cute tags, Starbucks gift cards, and an accompanying sack of other sweet treats.
What shines is that, despite our busy schedules and long list of looming deadlines, we carved out the 12+ hours that it took to show gratitude for the teachers and staff at Westlake Academy.
It's never really about the cookies, is it?
Or the candy
Or even the Starbucks gift card.
Really it's about the gift of time.
It is about putting into perspective all the things to which you assign so much importance and then setting them aside long enough to assign importance to someone else's contributions.
Really it's about saying thank you with actions, not with words and not with your wallet.
Today it's back to work, but with a big smile on my face. Because on this day I know there are a group of teachers and staff at Westlake Academy who, through the simple gift of time, are feeling a little extra love and appreciation.
