Something Unexpected

Hello readers. Cheryl here. Next Wednesday my mom and three of her sisters will be coming to see me. My mom and aunt Carol will be staying with me while my aunt Trish and aunt Cynthia will be staying at a hotel. I've taken Thursday and Friday off from work to spend some time with them.

I'm excited about their visit because other than my boys, I will have them all to myself. I'm greedy. I admit it. These are the women that influenced me through my childhood and into what I've grown to be today. They know my stories, my experiences so what better time to give back to them and make an inexpensive gift when they expect it least.

With end of school coming up this would be a great gift for a teacher or even a kid to celebrate summer. The options, of course, are endless for the loved ones in your life. Let's get started.

Here's what you need:

  • a bag, or two, or four
  • some fabric, I bought some scraps
  • Pellon Fabric Fusion
  • Fabric Glue such as Fabric Fusion
  • 3D paint
  • scissors
  • Use your computer and regular copy paper to create your pattern
  • any embellishments you deem beautiful

Cut your patterns out. Here, I've placed the letters on the bags and chose the fabric I would use for each bag. You can see I wanted my "J" to be extended above the heart. Adjust your letters as needed.

After I selected the fabrics I want to use, I cut a small square to be adhered to my Pellon. Here's a picture of it. You sewing types can help me. Is there a fusion fabric that adheres to the fabric and then you iron and adhere it to the bag? I didn't get that kind. So, let's move on. Don't skip the Pellon. It gives the fabric some body to work with.

Follow the instructions on your fusion fabric and iron the squares to the Pellon.

Using a pencil, place your letter pattern on the wrong side of the fabric and trace the pattern onto the fabric. Cut it out.

Spread the Fabric Fusion Glue on the back and place on your bag. This would be a good time to add any embellishments to the front if you want.

Let the glue dry overnight. So now you have time to go read some of 29 Gifts in 29 Days so you're ready for our April adventure.

Okay, the glue is dry and the fabric letters are now stuck to the bags. Hooray! Now take your black (or any other color you like) and carefully go around the edges of the letters.

Oh! Lookie there. You have to wait for it to dry again. So go ahead and take the rest of the night off. Wait. Did you send our Yellow Envelope Project Nominee a note last Saturday? No? Go do that now. You'll be glad you did.

The only thing left to do now is stuff it with some goodies and make it fat and pretty. I didn't add any embellishments to mine because I'm a more is less kind of girl. Okay- I'm lazy but I'll know you'll forgive me. Here's their loot.

And here are the stuffed bags ready for my guests. So there you have it. Even you can do it.

Why don't you join us in Today's Post Forum and tell us about when someone did something unexpected for you or when you did something unexpected for someone else? Or, it is Friday? Do you have something else you want to discuss? Jump on in.

Shining off until tomorrow.
