When traveling close to 1,000 miles, by car, it 's hard not to appreciate how smoothly traffic flows when people stay in their lane.
Simple yellow dashes that, when strung together, bring order to interstates stretching from one end of the country to another.
The process breaks down, though, when:
Rubberneckers slow down to gawk at someone else's misfortune.
Reckless drivers weave between lanes trying to get ahead, or...
Distracted drivers swerve, while pursuing something of equal interest such as a text, their CD player, or their own reflections.
I can't help but think that people moving through life are a little like cars moving along the highway. Life feels smooth when we are traveling in a lane we feel good about and when we are traveling at a steady clip. Things begin to break down, though, when:
We allow ourselves to be slowed down by negative people who find joy in our failures.
We weave in and out of lanes, desperate to find short cuts and ways to get ahead, or...
We move from lane to lane, distracted and torn between dreams, projects, and goals of equal interest.
Honk if you agree.
Shining off until tomorrow...
