Fun Fact: Growing up, my next door neighbor, Eddie, helped create the board game, Tribond. He and two friends came up with the idea while working long, hot summer days doing construction. I suppose it was their way of passing time.
The game challenges players to identify the specific relationship - bond - between three clues. Below are a few examples:
Queen, Drone, Worker. Answer: Bees.
Jazz, Heat, Sixers. Answer: NBA basketball teams
Bisque, Love, Fault. Answer: Tennis terms
I felt a little like I was playing Tribond last week as I met with students about their passions and visions for the future. They would tell stories about themselves and I would listen closely, trying to identify a specific relationship - bond - between their clues. Below are a few examples:
I am a take-charge-kind-of-person, I love traveling, I have experience working with people who have disabilities.
I was teased as a child, I lost a lot of weight in my teens, I am a certified fitness instructor.
I write poetry, I want to be an entrepreneur, I recently started a blog.
Notice that, unlike Eddie, my combinations of clues are not nicely and neatly followed by an answer. That is because, the game of life is harder than the game of Tribond. In Tribond, the relationship already exists and winning means you are better than your competition at deducing the puzzle's correct answer.
In life, there is not one correct answer and winning does not mean moving around the board faster than your peers. In life, winning means accurately inducing - in fact, producing - a relationship between your life's purpose (contribution) and your talents, interests, and experiences.
How about you? Join us in the comment section and share at least three important things about you. Then start playing. Find a connection between the items you have listed and the contribution you would most like to make in the world.
Shining off until tomorrow...
