Another Serving, Please

You know an idea shines when it is worth featuring again... and again... and again.

The annual event, Dine by Design, which is sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Colleyville, is a perfect example. I have been following this event like a groupie ever since my friend introduced me to it four years ago. And every year I find something new to love about it.

The first year I was blown away by the display of creativity. More than thirty tables were decorated; each with a different theme, but ALL with tablescapes that would make your jaw drop. Take a look.

The second year I was inspired to learn the evening is hosted by the church's women's ministry and that the event's sole purpose is to foster fellowship among women. I was so inspired by the idea of gathering women for the purposes of fellowship, that I challenged readers to host their own Dine by Design event...with a twist. And a few did.

In year three I came to appreciate the focus Dine by Design coordinators seem to have on community. Not only because they open the event for community members to attend, but also because they do an impressive job of engaging their own church members. Husband's, for example, served dinner, refilled drinks, and cleared dishes. Additionally, a handful of women involved in the church presented a spring fashion show during the dinner hour.

This year, I think it was the attention to detail for which I had the most admiration.  I savored every minute spent weaving through the thirty decorated tables and pouring over their incredible attention to detail. Centerpieces, napkin rings, party favors, name tags, seat covers and the list goes on. It was unequivocal affirmation that Little Things Make a Big Difference.

As for next year?

I am hoping the thing I most appreciate about next year's Dine by Design event is the sense of satisfaction Heather, Cheryl, Misty, and I will have after hosting one of our own tables.

Wanna help?

Shining off until tomorrow...

Oh, and the other thing I appreciated about this year's event was that, of all the random tables to which we could have been assigned, we ended up at a table titled, Mellow Yellow!  Yellow is the House of Shine's signature color. Tell me that wasn't somehow preordained.

I must assume the event has left all of you as speechless as it leaves me!

What a fun event! I wish I had one inkling of creativity to do things like this!

I love the idea of this every year that you spotlight it! Do any of the local colleges do a table? I would see UNCW having a table decked out in teal, with beach items and some Sammy's (our mascot, a seahawk).

No, Katie. But, I have long maintained this kind of event would be PERFECT to do during a Family Weekend. Clubs and organizations or residence hall floors could each do a table and then host a nice dinner for parents. Administrators or students could be the servers.

    Claudia, I love that idea!

I also was thinking this would be a great idea for an end of the year RA banquet. Each "area"/staff could decorate their table to represent their residential area. The professional staff and grad students could serve dinner to the RAs.
