Saturday, April 16 is the House of Shine's Second Annual Postman (and woman) Appreciation Day. Not because it is federally mandated or because it is listed on the Brownielocks.com website.
It is, because we said so. And because we hope you will share our vision.
By this time of the year our postmen and women have delivered holiday cards and packages to our homes - followed by New Year's cards in January and batches of Valentine's Day cards in February. On April 15, mail carriers will cross the finish line of their busy season dutifully carrying satchels filled with last minute tax returns.
Not to mention all the pick-up and delivering they do for us on behalf of the Yellow Envelope Project.
What better way to Spread Shine and Bring Out the Best in your postman than by decorating your mailbox in his or her honor?
We have high hopes you will rise to the occasion and join us, so that we can eventually start a movement rivaling the fun and creativity of Halloween and Christmas. Imagine, annually, that people will load into their cars on the Saturday following Tax Day, so they can "ooh" and "aah" over the decorated mailboxes lining the streets of their neighborhoods.
Can you picture it?
One mailbox is covered with bright-colored tissue paper flowers and a sign reading, "Thanks a Bunch." The next mailbox is Hollywood-themed and reads, "Lights, Camera, Thank You." The family across the street goes all out, converting their mailbox into a jukebox. Their sign hangs in the shape of a record and reads, "You Are a Hit."
The picture above is compliments of Cheryl and shows our most award winning example from last year's inaugural event.
If you have kids, this is the perfect way to reinforce the importance of gratitude. If you don't have kids, it is still a great way to reinforce the importance of gratitude. And, it is a fun reason to gather with friends and Create.
Three times a charm. Next year at this time we expect to launch our Postman Appreciation Day Website on the brownielocks.com website. If the site is going to shine we will need photographs of 15-20 mailboxes that we can share with on-lookers who want to join our fun, but who need examples of our vision.
You have twelve days to develop your plan. Not because we say so, but because your postman visits your home six days a week and because people who shine realize the impact of little things.
Visit us in the comment section and share some of your creative ideas for mailbox decorations.
Shining off until tomorrow...
