Coincidence? I'm not so sure.
Today I return to Texas after having been gone at Leadershape for one week. Leadershape, for those who don't know, is a week long leadership institute for college-aged students. The week culminates in students developing visions statements that describe how they plan on making the world a better place. We send each student off with a small pebble in his or her hand. The pebble symbolizes the ripple effect that each participant will make in the world as each "commences" his or her leadership journey.
Today also happens to be Dream 2010 Day.
When making note to celebrate this day with the House of Shine, I had no idea the purpose of Dream 2010 Day and I certainly had no idea today I would be returning home from Leadershape.
Coincidence? I'm not so sure.
Turns out, Dream 2010 Day was named in honor Robert Muller. Muller dedicated his life to working for, and promoting the work of the United Nations, because he was convinced if we worked together that we could achieve a peaceful, united human family on Earth.
Turns out, Robert Muller published a book of his 7,000 dreams titled, "7,000 Dream for a Better World." Check out dream #2874, which I stumbled on:
"Someday I should write another book on all my dreams which became true during my life. For instance, the dream after World War II to work for peace the rest of my life. The dream to join the United Nations. The dream to see the border in my hometown disappear. The dream to live in a demilitarized country. The dream to be an educator for peace. The dream to live as long as possible to help bring about a better world. The dream to live some day on a beautiful hill with a magnificent view and to write as an elder of the United Nations the beautiful stories of my life and my further dreams and ideas for a better word. I have come to believe that the only things that really work on this miraculous, magic Earth are dreams."
Robert Muller shined and because he shined his legacy lives on.
One more thing.
Robert Muller started something called a Bench of Dreams. He suggests you consider creating one in your neighborhood, including these simple instructions.
Select two small stones
Hold them close together and dream your dream.
When you see your dream clearly,
Put one stone into your pocket to take with you
Toss the other stone into the garden.
Hold your dream in your heart, even as the Earth holds it.
Together, we can make our dreams come true.
What do you think about creating our own virtual Bench of Dreams? Pick up two small stones today and do what Muller suggests. Then, come back to the Community Forum labeled, Bench of Dreams and tell us about your dream for a better world.

Shining off until tomorrow...
