Movin' On Up

Attention anyone who wakes up everyday and pursues his or her dream.  Today's post is for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to own some sort of training facility - a place where I could train staff members and teams and leaders to be their very best.  I even remember facilitating a leadership retreat where I described, at length, what the facility would, one day, look like.  Bright and cheery rooms - no two looking alike.  Cozy chairs, cool art, nooks for reflecting, crannies for sharing, and mismatched plates and drinking glasses - all designed to inspire my guests.  Oh, and a deck with rocking chairs.

In the interim, I found a place that was mortgage free.  Three years ago the address was www.highlowaha.blogspot.com and now, three years later, I am fully settled into our recently renovated space, www.houseofshine.com.  Here, my roots are firmly planted.

I didn't wait for the full blown training facility to land in my lap.  Instead, I made do with what I had and, in doing so, I have noticed that three things are happening.

First.  The longer I teach in our virtual facility, the more clear I become about the kind of work I will do in a facility made from bricks and mortar.  After three years, I know I love Shine.  I love spotting it, writing about it, catching people in the act of it, spreading it, and sharing it.

Second.  The more our growing team of people does the work of the House of Shine, the better we get at it.  With almost 1,000 posts behind us, we are getting better and better at recognizing and teaching principles of excellence.

Third and perhaps the most important.  The more we treat the House of Shine like it is real, the more real the House of Shine becomes.  It was only one year ago, this Friday, that we officially changed our name from highlowaha.com to houseofshine.com.  In that time we now have a new website, the Shine Manifesto, an upcoming conference in March, letterhead, stickers, postcards, t-shirts, all sorts of Shine paraphernalia sent by friends and fans, and - as of last Thursday...

A new House of Shine, located in the Key Largo, Florida - the Sunshine state.

Training for staff members, teams, and leaders coming your way in 2012.  Stay tuned.

What is your dream and what can you be doing in the interim?  Visit us in the Comment Section and tell us.

Shining off until tomorrow...

I'm so excited for you...and House of Shine! Can we host a "Taste of USA" type thing there? Imagine having as much time as we want/need to get things set up. Having full control of our schedule and taking breaks out on the balcony listening to the waves!!

You should get some notes from Laura Kremer Kline's Mom on how to stock a house that isn't your primary house and has lots of visitors...their lake house is awesome. Basically whoever visits "pays" for their stay by bringing something to restock their pantry/household supplies. So it could be laundry detergent, toilet paper or paper towels, toothbrushes (in case someone forgets theirs), toiletries, or non perishable foods. Then whenever anyone goes they only have to worry about bringing their clothes, everything else is covered. I think it has taken them some time to build up the stockpile.

Maybe we should have a House of Shine Warming Party!!! That would be fun. Buy some bright orange/yellow/red towels...orange flowers for the balcony!

    Ooohh... good ideas, Heather.

We will most certainly be hosting retreats and all kind of fun events at the House of Shine. I can hardly wait to see what fun ideas we come up with. We will use this summer to get the place in better shape and then we'll take it for a spin.

    That is totally awesome!!!

You need to have a guest book and a history scrap book with pictures of how it all came to BE-eny.

Seriously Robin...I bet one could have a doormat made to say Welcome to the House of Shine.
Hmmm...it is so fun to think about decorating a house of shine. All those rules of warm cozy colors, perfectly accessorized seem to go out the window. I'm just saying.

Yes, decorating this house will be tons of fun. The only rule will be, no rules!
