Job Well Done

If you have ever questioned how big a difference a single person can make when he shines then consider this:

Two days ago Steve Jobs, Chief Executive for Apple, announced he would be taking medical leave.  That same day, Apple stock fell on Wall Street 5.2%.  It was a loss of $19 BILLION dollars in market value; the equivalent of $63.00 for every man, woman, and child in the United States of America.

The fear of Steve Jobs leaving his position has consumed the front page of every major newspaper and the minds of every financial analyst for the past 72 hours.

We are often trained to believe the best managers create organizations so well oiled that, should they go on leave, their absence is barely felt.  Maybe that is true of great managers and leaders.

Maybe the game changes when someone shines at his work; when he is actually more of an artist than a manager or leader.

Shining off until tomorrow...
