I am a good example of why concerted, focused, intense commitment is the only way to accomplish your goal in 2011.
If you are just tuning in, yesterday we rejected the idea of setting resolutions, not because we are cynical and don't believe in new beginnings. We rejected the idea, because listing three or four resolutions simply does not honor the intense physical and mental energy that is required of people seriously committed to accomplishing a goal.
Instead, we believe in focus. Set your sights on one accomplishment and get so serious about whatever it is that you are actually willing to name your year after it.
But, that's not it. Talk is cheap and I am living proof.
I named last year the Year of the Book and I have virtually nothing to show for it.
I did A+ work at naming my year, but I earn an F for getting serious about it.
Let's review. Last year I: worked a new full-time job; continued to host a blog six days a week, while initiating a series of new website projects; joined Rotary International; visited hosts and hosted visitors; endured five long months of construction in and around my home; and helped maintain a household and three children.
There is nothing about the way I lived last year that would suggest to you writing a book was important to me. I didn't give up anything or reduce anything. In fact, one could argue that I actually took on a few new things. Let there be no confusion, naming your year is only Step One.
How will you arrange or rearrange your schedule to accommodate the energy you must exert to accomplish your goal this year? Visit us in the Community Forum labeled Today's Post and tell where you plan on finding your extra time or resources. What will you give up or rearrange? Remember, don't spill the beans yet about what you will name your year. We are saving that until Friday.
Shining off until tomorrow...
