Happy Friday, Shiners! Cheryl here.
It's the last Friday before Christmas Eve and I have struggled the past two weeks with what I should share with you today. I thought about making felt stockings to tuck small gifts in, making boxes out of foam core board, or cooking something up in the kitchen but my Bah Humbug spirit said, "Bah! Humbug! It's not like they are going to run out and make this stuff before next week!" Grump, grump, grumpy.
As of today, December 17th, I have not done one stitch of Christmas shopping. And, to say that I'm a little stressed out by that thought is an understatement. Bah! Humbug! Christmas is cancelled. Go play with the toys that you have in your room!
Then, this past Wednesday, when Holly mentioned that she wanted an experience gift and it jarred a memory I have of a story that was emailed to me around Christmas time 2005. I wonder if you've read it, too. I Googled the story like any good researcher would and here's what I learned.
The story was published in an issue of Woman's World on December 14,1982. Woman's World had asked for submissions based on the theme "My Most Moving Holiday Tradition" - and, Nancy Gavin's entry won. It's been blogged about many times before and the story has grown into The White Envelope Project. It's our long lost cousin! The story has been translated into a video. Get your kleenex ready:

In our world of over consumption, I encourage you to take on this tradition. It SHINES.
But, I am not going to put a white envelope on my tree this year. I am going to put a YELLOW envelope on my tree. For my boys. Join me in the forum section and help me decide which charity I should give to in their name.
And don't forget to join us tomorrow when Claudia shares another Yellow Envelope Project Nominee.
