All week long we've been preparing to shine on Thanksgiving. Monday we talked about reusing the wishbones from your turkey. Yesterday we talked about using Conversation Cards to keep dinner conversation lively. And, today I share a simple idea for your Thanksgiving centerpiece.
Let me count the reasons why I love this idea:
One. It's easy - at least the leaves are easy. I must admit a friend made the tree, but only because I was in a pinch for time. I will try my own. Here are her directions: Twist, turn, and manipulate wire hangers; spray paint yellow; and anchor in a terra cotta pot filled with concrete.
Two. It's far less expensive than a store bought flower arrangement from your local florist.
Three. We were able to make it a week ahead of time, without having to worry that it would wilt.
Four. Kids can roll their sleeves up and get fully involved.
We used dinner time to brainstorm all the things we are thankful for this year. After dinner we printed them on leaves that the boys traced (and I cut). Matthew said he was thankful for our dog "May Day" and his babysitter, "Jennifer." Jack said, "candy" and his "bicycle." As for me: "a loving husband", "books," "House of Shine," and, of course, "my boys."
How about you? What are you thankful for this year? Visit us in the Community Forum labeled, Today's Post and tell us what your leaves would say.
Shining off until tomorrow...
