In June we hosted our first ever 5Ray.  You might remember it.  It was a race to spread shine.  Five days, five items, five locations. Combine each of the five items with a location in your community and create a little cheer.

It was as much fun as it sounds.  Take a look and see.

We stumbled on the idea for the event during a brainstorming session.  Heather, Cheryl, and I quickly agreed that, though the idea was a fluke, sponsoring an event focused on spreading shine was among our Top Ideas for 2010. 

Shineworks is born.

We are going to give this new idea of ours a whirl to see how it goes.  We will host it once monthly and we promise to keep it fun, casual, and simple. On a Monday we will identify an everyday item that most of us have in our home.  Your task will be to somehow use the item to spread shine.  How you use it is 100% up to you.  That part of Shineworks is my favorite feature, since it creates space for people to use their creativity.

On Monday you learn of the item you must use and you have until Friday to complete your Shineworks. Cheryl likes that feature, since she – like most of us - is balancing a busy work and home life.

Anybody can be the object of your Shineworks.  It could be one good friend or a collection of office mates.  It could be people passing by a park or morning customers at a local coffee or donut shop.  Who you make the focus of your Shine works should depend on who you think could most benefit from a dose of House of Shine Love.  Heather loves that part because she is the ultimate connector and knows a million people.

A Community Forum will be available for participants to log completion of their monthly Shineworks.  Simply write a short description or post a photo.  We’re not picky.  We’ll just enjoy knowing that corners all over the world are brighter than they were when the week started.
