Last week I facilitated leadership training and Joan of Arc came up. A woman in the group told of a story she read by author, Tim Elmore. She explained that, in his story, Elmore recanted an exchange between Joan of Arc and a military General. Joan of Arc told the General she would lead the way over the wall for 3,000 French knights in battle. The general replied, "Not a man will follow you." And, in return, Joan of Arc said, "I won't be looking back to see if they're following me."
Man-o-man. Joan of Arc shines in a big, big way.
The very next day someone, in an attempt to assure me it would be ok to skip a day of blog posting, asked, "Well how many followers do you have anyway?"
Immediately I channeled my inner Arc and replied, "I don't know, but it doesn't matter."
And it doesn't.
Of course I imagine that following behind me are 3,000 French knights eagerly heading into battle (or at least a Rayvolution), but if not, then so be it. I won't be looking back to find out.
Hosting the House of Shine for people who shine is the right thing to do. It's the right thing, because otherwise we are left with a steady drip of depressing news that will suck life and energy from the very people who are most motivated to help do something about it. It is impossible to imagine how this audience of loyal readers won't make the world a brighter place, simply by infusing some shine into the world each day. Our blog is your armory. Meet here and collect what you need to fight our Rayvolution. An inspiring story, a thought-provoking question, a creative idea to share with someone you love. These small acts add up.
It's the same with the Yellow Envelope Project. Every week showcase someone who is busy brightening his or her corner of the world and eventually those who shine (YOU) are more convinced than ever that small acts matter and that people notice. If that's what it takes to keep you going, that seems like a really, really small price to pay on my end.
So how many people will mail a yellow envelope to the deserving Dr. Pace this week? I don't know. I'm on my way to the post office and I won't be looking back to see if you are following.

Shining off until tomorrow...
