Sometimes even at the House of Shine, weather conditions are cloudy. My day yesterday was dreary. It started at 5:00 am when my three year-old son crawled into our bed and proceeded to scratch my back with the metal bristles of the curl brush I use to dry my hair in the morning. Then came a few more exchanges with the other men in my life and by 8:00 a.m. I was ready to jump back into bed and drift back into a peaceful slumber.
But, I had a phone meeting scheduled with one of our readers to share tips on how I make the most of my Planner Pad calendar. As it turns out, that call was the best thing that could have happened to me. It was the force that allowed the tide of my day to change.
When I hung up the phone, I stood staring out my kitchen window and immediately decided today should be the day I introduce our blog’s upcoming involvement with the book 29 Gifts.
Early on in her book Cami Walker, author of 29 Gifts, tells of an exchange between she and a friend. She sought out her friend expecting sympathy for the trials she must endure due to her recent diagnosis of a progressive disease. Instead her friend offers a prescription, telling her to give 29 gifts in 29 days. She reminds her,
"Healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum, Cami, but through our interactions with other people. By giving, you are focusing on what you have to offer others, inviting more abundance into your life. Giving of any kind is taking a positive action that begins the process of change. It will shift your energy for life."
Twenty-nine gifts in 29 days, that’s the challenge I want readers from the House of Shine to join me in taking on. We will begin on Thursday, April 1 and run straight through Thursday, April 29. We’ve labeled a forum, 29 gifts, so we can share stories about this experiment described by so many as transformative.
Though not required, I suggest you begin by purchasing a copy of the book. It will help you understand why I am so committed to this project and it will debunk any preconceived notions you might have about gifts wrapped in perky little boxes with bright colored ribbon. Books you will notice are on sale in our Yellow Awning Shop.
My interaction with Kat yesterday morning allowed me to forget about my dreary start to the day and put me in a position of giving. By 10:00 my day was turned around and I was back to shining.
