Nothing makes winter doldrums more palatable than good friends,
lots
and lots
and lots of
yellow treats

The chance to get creative
using
ribbons,
markers,
happy faces,
tissue paper, and
hot glue guns

Prestine white boxes
filled with good cheer
a thoughtful note, and
lots of love

And the chance to mail them off, so that...
someone else's winter doldrums can be made more palatable.
Now that's the way you power the planet with Shine!
Shine on, everyone.

I got to watch my son, Matthew, Shine this weekend. He manned a booth at a local Breakfast With Santa and, for three hours straight, sold and pitched his On-a-Roll-Party-Favors.
"Get your last minute stocking stuffers!"
"Great for your kids. Great for class parties. Great for your grandkids."
"Made from recycled toilet paper rolls. I made them myself."
"Only $2.50"
"Get your party favors now!"
I think the adults manning the other 19 booths probably learned a lesson or two from Matthew that morning. His table had a steady flow of customers and even people who had no money stopped to see what he was selling.
He was tireless. For three straight hours he stood in front of his table and shouted the same six or seven phrases over and over again. And, unlike other vendors Matthew didn't wander the hall checking out what everyone else was selling or sit in a chair reading a book while waiting for someone to approach him.
He was fearless. It never occured to him that people wouldn't want what he had to offer and, furthermore, it never ever occured to him that his relentless sales pitch was bothering anyone around him.
He was persistent. If someone off-handedly remarked that they might come back later, Matthew immediately tried closing the sale by arranging a specific time and confirming that he would be gone at noon.
He was knowledgeable. When people asked what was inside each party favor, he made sure to explain that boys had things such as dinasaurs, cars, and bouncy balls and that girls had things such as rings, necklaces, and keychains. And that all of them also had a Christmas joke and a couple of pieces of candy.
In the end Matthew sold over 100 party favors and for the next few days he will be peddling his wares at his brother, Jack's, daycare.
He's in bed as I type this, but if he were awake, I'm sure he'd want me to tell you...
"Great for your Christmas Eve place settings."
"Great for neices, nephews, and neighbors."
"Made from recycled toilet paper rolls."
"Only $2.50"
"Order them now by emailing my mom at cbeeny@ckbgroup.com and she'll throw in free shipping."
"Get your party favors now."

Happy Birthday to me.
Today I am working my way through a long list of my favorite things to do. Meet a friend for coffee at Starbucks, visit the pumpkin patch, Boo houses, and spread a little Shine.
If you tuned in on Monday, you know that today is a special edition of Shineworks. The goal of Shineworks is to use your creativity and an every day item (this time a drink holder) to spread shine in your corner of the world.
I started by spray painting my drink holder yellow. And then I sprayed over it with glitter.

Next. Bake yellow cupcakes and ice them with nothing other than yellow frosting. Don't forget the yellow sugar crystals.

A cutout yellow sun stuck in styrofoam makes a cheery centerpiece.

Handmade cupcake toppers make the perfect place to write someone's name or an uplifting note.

The best part, of course, will be presenting them to handpicked but unsuspecting people.

Enjoy your day as much I intend to enjoy mine.
